The Faculty of Dental Medicine of the University of Porto (FMDUP) is a public higher education institution of excellence in Portugal, comprehensively dedicated to training, research, and providing services in the field of oral health.

With a rich and significant history, FMDUP was established in 1976 as the Porto School of Dentistry (ESMDP), marking the beginning of dental education in the country. In 2026, it will celebrate its 50th anniversary, a testament to its legacy and its forward-looking vision.

Its educational offerings are diverse and of high quality, covering various levels of study:

• The Integrated Master's Degree in Dental Medicine, characterised by a strong clinical component that prepares future professionals for the real challenges of practice.
• Master's Degrees that provide advanced training in various specialised areas of dentistry, deepening knowledge and skills.
• Doctorates, which promote integration into collaborative research projects and structures, fostering scientific production and innovation.

In the area of Research and Innovation, FMDUP stands out for its scientific output, featuring a specialised library and research units such as the RISE Health Investigation Unit and Bonelab, in addition to various research and development projects. It also boasts a Research Promotion Office (GPI) and a Health Ethics Committee, ensuring rigour and support for clinical research.

FMDUP's commitment to the Community is evident through its services, which include:

• Dental consultations, provided by students under the supervision of teaching staff across various specialties, and a Radiology Service.
• Social Responsibility initiatives, such as GAP - FMDUP and oral health promotion projects, as well as volunteering.
