The School of Human and Social Sciences (ECHS) at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) is an academic unit dedicated to the advancement of knowledge in the fields of humanities and social sciences.

ECHS faculty members perform a dual and fundamental role: in addition to their teaching responsibilities, they are actively engaged in scientific research. They conduct robust work within research centres directly anchored at UTAD, such as the
Centre for Transdisciplinary Studies for Development (CETRAD) and the
Centre for Literature Studies (CEL). Many of these researchers also collaborate with other national research centres associated with various Portuguese universities.
